Peas in a Jug

Peas in a jug; it's a new one. It's what those who know him well refer to as an "Akinism". Chris Akin has hundreds, maybe thousands. You'll understand after the show.

Last season, just a few days after New Year's, Avery's David Carrington invited Chris and me to go hunting with him for a few days at Avery's camp just outside Stuttgart, Arkansas. Chris wanted to bring Scott Greer and Al Arthur who were set to come in and shoot for a few days anyway. Dan Heard had called and was ready to come spend a few days as well, since Missouri was starting to get a little icy. As hunting trips often do, the number of hunters started to grow and before you know it we had Dave ready to host about 12 hunters. He is the consummate host and kept saying "yes" until there was only a bed or two left! Before long, we had the entire Team Waterdog crew there except for Tellus Calhoun and Danny Farmer.

I told Shannon I was heading over to Casscoe to shoot with all the fellows for a few days and she asked if she could bring a couple cameras just to cover it for laughs. I called Dave and asked him. He's a glutton for punishment and said as only Carrington can, especially when he's spending Tom Matthew's money, "Come on."

So we hunted for 3 or 4 days and had a lot of fun. Here's what I learned:

1. Dan Heard might be the best Specklebelly caller in the world; especially, with a borrowed call.
2. Scott Greer can outshoot me on his worst day; especially, when they are outside 60 yards.
3. Treva Bailey is the finest cook in all of Arkansas.
4. Dakota doesn't like to lie in the water anymore than I thought he would.
5. Buckshot Lodge had plenty of ducks and geese when very few others did last season.
6. Neo Tubs really do work well in a flooded rice field.
7. Keith Allison gets funnier by the month. (I'm assuming because there is no red line below it that funnier is really a word.)
8. Dan Heard doesn't like tight waders.
9. Three dogs are way too many to hunt with out of a pit. (I already knew this, but a certain producer had to do it her way.)
10. My head hurts when I hear the words "rice field pit."

It was fun and funny. I hope you guys like it.
